I designed the Tolomeo in 1986. Perhaps I ought to say that I invented it, as in point of fact the idea for a new mechanism came before the lamp was created.

Environmental quality is increasingly at the center of our attention and light is a fundamental element of it. In recent years the very conception of the light source has changed, and the Tolomeo has been able to adapt to these changes.

2014

For Christmas 2016 Artemide presented a gold version of the iconic lamp of Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina.
Tolomeo, with its infinite variety, is a lamp that after 30 years is still capable of illuminating the future. Smart, functional, contemporary, open to new interpretations that follow technological innovations.

Rather than a lamp, Tolomeo is a philosophy of the product. It has a very pliable personality and can be used anywhere, and each of its components can be turned into an independent lamp.
