City After the City – from May 25 to September 30, 2016 at the former Expo Area

On occasion of the 21st International Exhibition of the Milan Triennale, the Expo 2015 area hosts to the great show City after the city, a series of iconic scenes that describe the aspirations of a different city by tackling a variety of topics: Landscape Urbanism, Urban Orchard, Expanded Housing, People in Motion, Street Art.

Lighting project: the concept
The lighting project, curated by Architect Carlotta de Bevilacqua, entertains a perfect interaction with its surroundings and the exhibition by means of a dematerialized light that promotes and drives the perception of the individual parts of the intervention.
Special wall-washer lights illuminate the outer walls. Visitors are driven through the global vegetable garden located between both halls, and their experience is underlined by a liquid grazing light at the foot of the flowerbeds. The light and shadow contrasts produced by the geometric pattern of the entrance canopy blur the transition between nature and architecture, and half-light welcomes and leads visitors towards the interiors of the show.
Here, a silent light unveils and enhances the works on display without disturbing sensory, visual, and acoustic perception.

Lighting project: the product LoT, the ultimate expression of the Artemide technology
This luminous installation, which starts from shadow to design light, finds its ultimate expression in the Artemide technology used for the project LoT, designed by Tapio Rosenius and successfully introduced at Light+Building in Frankfurt, as well as during the Milan Design Week.

In LoT, an all-purpose projector combined with a software application allows to respond to the need to control light in a flexible, dynamic, and programmable way, while meeting all exhibiting requirements in the best possible way.

LoT allows to create dynamic landscapes by interacting with shadow to address themes expressed and perceived in different ways:

– a spot light interacting with space, where images and contents are alternatively projected to ensure their appropriate perception;
– an invisible light that highlights the works of the different installations inside the show;
– a light that underlines the objects on display and drives them out of the silent half-light.

LoT can highlight the space and the works that make up the individual installations through an appropriate interaction with the projections characterizing City after the City, including an installation located at a 12-m height to prevent any interferences with the projection of images on the Backcloths.

The LoT appliances, as well as all the Artemide solutions fitted in outdoor areas, bear evidence of the company’s determination to investigate cutting-edge domains, striving towards a new generation of instruments to design the light of the future.
