ADI DESIGN INDEX 2016: Les Danseuses selected to receive the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2018 Award
Milan, October 7, 2016 – The lamp Les Danseuses designed by Atelier Oi for DaneseMilano (Artemide Group) was selected for inclusion in the ADI Design Index 2016, the first collection of the best design projects pre-selected to receive the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2018 Award.
LES DANSEUSES, DANCING LIGHTS
“As it turns like the dervishes’ gowns, Les Danseuses gives varying shapes to the regular waves they create in space, following their own pace”. Atelier Oi
Les Danseuses draws inspiration from dance, from the harmonious movement of the fabric that gracefully counters air’s resistance. Its dynamic shapes are defined by the physics of Coriolis’ forces, the same that govern hurricanes: these principles, and the slits that influence the inertial forces, define the shapes of the rotating fabric.
It is a suspension appliance that combines light with air for improved environmental quality: an engine is fitted on the stem to control the fabric’s movement, alongside an optical body that produces diffused light. The fabric, with slits that shade and filter light to create gentle dynamic projections, rotates to move air and adjusts light emission.
Les Danseuses is a poetic project that deals with air and light, emotion and surprise, energy and environmental quality.
The colour scenes reproduced by Les Danseuses can be admired in some collective spaces of the Architecture Biennale 2016 in Venice, now under way.
