January 2017 – Ameluna, a project born from the partnership between Artemide and Mercedes-Benz Style, Discovery, system signed by Ernesto Gismondi, and Unterlinden, the suspension designed by Herzog & de Meuron won the iF Product Design Award 2017.
This historic award, created in 1953, is recognized as a quality brand and is awarded to the best international projects selected by a jury of over 60 experts for design excellence.
Many are the Artemide products that have won over the years the iF Product Design Award. The award, also received this year, is a further confirmation of the Artemide international reputation recognized as an expression of the best Italian design.
Ameluna, Discovery and Unterlinden are devices that express technology and aesthetic appeal, and demonstrate the capabilities of Artemide in creating intelligent lighting solutions, innovative and strong emotionality, where technological research is combined with aesthetic value and quality of manufacturing.
Ameluna is a light with a high tech intelligence that is expressed not only in innovation optoelectronics, but also in the ability to relate with the environment in a digital dialogue.
Artemide and Mercedes-Benz Style have combined their skills to design a project that combines beauty and intelligence through a pure and transparent form, an expression of high quality industrial and innovative vision of the project.
The Discovery system is an expression of a deep understanding of light and its perceptual qualities. Discovery has an essential geometry, thus described by Ernesto Gismondi: “To be able to get a ring so thin and light, we turned to the bicycle manufacturers, and the result is this profile lightweight aluminum and an almost invisible light.”
A lightweight profile which houses a strip Led injecting light into a transparent PMMA surface newly developed. Discovery is an element that does not invade the environment, totally absent and dematerialized, acquires volume when it is switched on by the light that draws the central station area.
Unterlinden of Herzog & de Meuron is a small pendant lamp that combines the ultimate LED optical efficiency with the materical expression of aluminum or brass, materials constituting the body lamp. Unterlinden is a valuable piece of design that combines the aesthetic appeal of an object of the past to a high-tech lighting and value.
With Unterlinden, has been done some important projects: the Slow Food Pavillion at Expo, the new home of the Feltrinelli Foundation, recently inaugurated, where a waterfall of over 100 regular Unterlinden soul lightly space, and a special version of the table Unterlinden is designed specifically for the reading stations.
The iF Design Award 2017 ceremony will be held next March 10 in Monaco at the BMW Welt.
