Artemide is proud to announce that three products have been recognized with the Architectural SSL Product Innovation Awards (PIA) in 2017. Ameluna, Light Over Time (LoT), and Discovery all received the prestigious award from Architectural SSL, one of the nation’s top trade publications for architects, lighting designers and specifiers.
The PIA recognizes innovative LED and solid-state luminaires and fixtures on the market. With judging and evaluation of products and systems from a distinguished panel of 14 designers and lighting specialists skilled in product evaluation, the SSL PIA program awards manufacturers based on attributes, qualities, functionality and/or performance beyond industry standards.
Ameluna was recognized in the Linear/Ambient Lighting Category for its blend of the lighting expertise of Artemide with the style of Mercedes-Benz.
Ameluna features cutting-edge technology through optoelectric innovation and the ability to interact with the surrounding environment in a digital dialogue. It can be controlled from an app that can memorize the lighting experience.
Ameluna produces a seemingly mystical light, like that of bioluminescent creatures. The bottom edge of the lamp contains an extremely flexible printed circuit board injected with 288 LEDs to provide optimum illumination. The light radiates downward and is dispersed throughout the transparent body, causing the entire lamp to glow and provide optimum illumination of the space.
The judges described Ameluna as “a unique luminaire in terms of aesthetics and connectivity. It also promises premium materiality and optimal optics.”
Discovery received the PIA in the Decorative and Pendant Lighting category. Discovery’s design is based on minimal geometry, and its diffuser is processed with micro-particles so small that it appears invisible when switched off.
The judges commented that Discovery is “a great example of SSL taking a leap into something entirely new.”
LoT was recognized in the Specialty Lighting category. Light over Time (LoT) is a series of lighting tools that allow the user to re-imagine, reveal, reinterpret and modulate light in space like never before. Its innovative software allows any user to easily program and design a wide range of lighting scenarios within a space.
Precision optics are used to achieve white light distribution in a single luminaire with simple data commands and without any moving parts. Layered, non-repetitive and natural light effects can be achieved with unique real-time content engines using biomimicry and other algorithms to calculate light patterns and effects instantaneously.
LoT is a new generation of tools for creative lighting solutions.
As the judges wrote, “fascinating how this fits across fixture platforms, while also designed with end-users’ circadian health in mind.”
