Milan, January 2017 – Tolomeo Lampione outdoor, designed by Michele De Lucchi, won the 2017 edition of the Wallpaper * Design Awards, for “Best Garden Party”.
“With Tolomeo Lampione, the Tolomeo family is enriched by a new outdoor product. The light source is enclosed by a diffusing dome placed inside a transparent plastic element IP65 which recalls the memory to the old street lamps that were used still when light was obtained with oil. The structural elements of Tolomeo were strengthened and consolidated to support more stress. ” Michele De Lucchi describes the lamp designed for Artemide.
Tolomeo, which this year celebrates its thirtieth anniversary, appeared on the market in 1987 as a table lamp, and was immediately recognized as an icon of modern design and awarded with the Compasso d’Oro in 1989.
In these thirty years it has declined in a wide range of variants, becoming a complete system capable of responding to human needs not only in the interior but also in public and private outdoor spaces.
The Wallpaper * Design Award to the Tolomeo Lampione testifies once again the design and technological expertise of Artemide in translating the evolution that has undergone the light over time in an unique product and always recognizable.
Artemide won the Wallpaper * Design Awards in 2014 with Empatia, designed by Carlotta de Bevilacqua and Paola di Arianello, for the category “Best Transparency”. While in 2015 with Equilibrist, signed by Jean Nouvel, has won as “Best Office Accessories” and last year the “Spectral Light” project, a collaboration between Artemide and Philippe Rahm, was awarded as “Best Bright Ideas”.
The Wallpaper * Design Awards is given annually by the magazine Wallpaper * to people, places and innovative products, destined to be a trendsetter. Projects are selected and awarded as best products for different categories, by an international jury consisting of names linked to the world of design, architecture and lifestyle.
