Light is a first response to the individual’s need to create an ad-hoc lighting environment that enhances his psychological and physical well-being.
By varying colour or temperature, light builds emotions and relationships. The radiations of light that reach our eyes are transformed into electric impulses and transmitted to the brain via the optic nerve. From here a series of inputs are originated that are transmitted to the entire body. In particular, when the impulses reach the hypothalamus they bring about an increase in serotonin, a neurotransmitter that controls moods. When the impulses reach the epiphysis we have a reduction in melatonin, a hormone that is sensitive to the day-night cycle.
The consequence of these neuro-physiological reactions is a significant variation in mood depending on the quantity and quality of light to which an individual is exposed. An individual, moreover, needs to act very differently at various moments of the day; for example, he needs to concentrate, to make an effort, to relax, to listen, or look carefully at everything around him.
Designing a light for people means going beyond the purely functional aspects of lighting and embracing a broader dimension, with a new attention towards perceptive experience.

The quality of the natural and artificial light is an essential component of the “well-being” and particularly in health care settings. Our research with ARTEMIDE aims, through an innovative light concept, improve and facilitate the conditions of life and work in public buildings. This concept is based on the combination of a program consisting of directional lighting and atmosphere and indirect program developed by ARTEMIDE “ Tunable White “ and “Tunable RGB” on the temperature variation of light, allowing it to evolve towards a LED technology in a for durability and evolution. Morphology declined in range is simple, functional, but also magical and poetic.
