At Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai 2018, from 22 to 24 November, Artemide is presenting its new collections, the result of partnerships with major international architectural firms and research into state-of-the-art technologies.
Artemide renews its participation at the event in confirmation of its deep interest in the markets of the East, as witnessed by its work with Neri&Hu, which recently won the prestigious DFA World’s Outstanding Chinese Designer 2018. The Yanzi and nh1217 families are the perfect combination of tradition and innovation, in a sustainable interaction of material, form and light, open systems ideal for constructing lightweight compositions and lightscapes.
2018 also saw the launch of another important collaboration with Ma Yansong's studio MAD Architects, resulting in the design of the Pingtang lamp, a contemporary interpretation of oriental culture and traditions.
"We are not interested in exporting a single culture, but rather in cultural exchange. Working on contemporary design requires all parties to bring their own competencies to the table in a dialogue between cultures from which all can learn."
Carlotta de Bevilacqua, Vice President & CEO Artemide
This is the attitude with which Artemide has always worked with the most important architecture studios, each of whom has brought their own cultural perspective to the design of lighting solutions. The above-mentioned Neri&Hu and MAD Architects, as well as BIG, Gensler, Foster&Partner, Herzog & de Meuron, Jean Nouvel and Alejandro Aravena's Elemental, the most recent of the six Pritzker Prize winners with whom Artemide has had the honour of working, are just some of the international designers whose work has resulted in innovative products and custom lighting solutions.
Artemide products represent a unique crossover of values: the approach to human and responsible light is combined with design and material know-how, in a coming together of the most advanced technology and ancient knowledge, in the perfect expression of sustainable design. Two perfect examples are “O” by Elemental and Gople Lamp by BIG, ideas which reconcile man spaces with nature through light. The former is an immaterial circle which evokes new perspectives on the natural and urban environments. The hand-blown glass Gople Lamp houses patented RWB lighting technology that helps promote plant growth and creates an optimal environment for people too, in terms of emotional, physiological and perceptive experience.
Another design from BIG is the Alphabet of Light system: an alphabet of light comprising straight and curved modules, offering designers a tool for communicating and for designing a comfortable light that fits any space and is remarkably dynamic thanks to the control with the ArtemideApp.
Indeed, Artemide today has the ability to produce not only the most suitable light for every indoor and outdoor space, but also management and information intelligence: advanced digital interaction systems, the Internet of Things, sensors, apps, LI-FI, Geo-Li-Fi, through to designing actual software.
Representing the Architectural solutions, on the other hand, are the A.24 system and the Vector family of spotlights, tools for enriching spaces with a variety of light performances offering continuity and flexibility. Discovery, awarded the Compasso d'Oro 2018, interprets Artemide's technological know-how and culture of design with a surprising solution that translates innovation into emotional perception. It is a totally absent and dematerialized element that acquires volume only when switched on, revealing a striking presence and a comfortable and perfect light emission even for work spaces.
The Shanghai event will also feature the presentation of the Come together portable light, a task lamp that can be moved around freely, offering 3 different brightness settings and up to 16 hour operation unplugged from mains power thanks to a Li-Po rechargeable battery and ultra-high efficiency, generated by an optical system designed in-house by Artemide.
For Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai 2018, Carlotta de Bevilacqua will be one of the speakers at the “Icon Architects” Design Talk organised by Interni magazine and scheduled for 23 November, 2.00 pm at the Shanghai Exhibition Center - Dome Hall - Piazza Italiana.
