A new light for Scarpa’s ticket office

Artemide contributes to Voice of Commons, a project by UNA/UNLESS, the studio founded by Giulia Foscari, presented as a Special Project within the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Carlo Ratti. The initiative is developed under the patronage of UNESCO, recognized by the UN Ocean Decade, and supported by the European Space Agency. Voice of Commons reactivates a symbolic space within the Arsenale: the historic ticket office designed by Carlo Scarpa in 1952.

The space is transformed into the Planetary Embassy, a symbolic representation of the Global Commons – Antarctica, the Ocean, the Atmosphere, and Outer Space – vital systems that support life on Earth but currently lack political and legal representation. The project calls attention to the urgent need to give voice to these territories and to promote a model of shared planetary governance.

Light as a design language

Within this highly charged cultural and political context, light plays a central role in shaping the visitor experience. Artemide contributes a custom lighting solution that interprets the project’s values through special, tailor-made versions of two iconic products: Turn Around and Vector.

Thanks to their versatility and spatially narrative design, these two lighting solutions enhance the architecture of the former ticket office, articulating the installation’s content with precision, balance, and evocative power.
Light thus becomes a tool for public awareness: it not only guides the external visual experience, but also amplifies the environmental and social message at the core of the project.

A collaboration that strengthens our global commitment

This new collaboration with Giulia Foscari UNA/UNLESS, who has also designed a product for Artemide, reaffirms the company’s long-standing commitment to supporting cultural initiatives that address urgent and universal issues through a contemporary and visionary language.

Artemide once again affirms its role as a preferred partner in initiatives that combine architecture, environmental responsibility, and advanced lighting design.
