Artemide & BIG:
ten years on light

BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group is an international group of architects and designers working across architecture, urbanism, research, and development. Founded in Copenhagen, the studio has grown into a global practice, with an established presence in New York, evolving over the years into an increasingly multidisciplinary reality. BIG’s approach combines innovation and technical expertise with a particular sensitivity to the conscious use of resources, cost control, and sustainability as a structural value of the project. These same principles also underpin its decade-long relationship with Artemide, built through an ongoing dialogue shaped by research, experimentation, and a shared vision.

"Our approach to design seeks the true essence of an idea so that we can create timeless objects that can be used for generations to come.
When you come up with an invention or an aesthetic idea, you also need the scientific and technological skills to make into a reality. It is like translating data into matter.
As architects, to complete this important translation without losing sight of the original idea we need collaborations with those who, like Artemide, have the skills, the know-how.
We have been working together for 10 years now, exploring new territories of light, so let's wait and see what we create together in the future."

Over the past ten years, the collaboration between BIG and Artemide has developed into a rich and dynamic dialogue between architecture, design, and innovation. United by a shared experimental approach and a strong focus on research, BIG and Artemide have brought to life numerous products that express a common vision: creating solutions that combine technical performance, formal clarity and a deep sensitivity to space and human experience. This long-standing partnership reflects a continuous exchange of ideas, resulting in a remarkable body of work that embodies the identity and values of both brands.

This ten-year relationship reflects a shared way of thinking, where light becomes a means to interpret space with intelligence, precision, and expressive freedom. Over time, the encounter between BIG’s architectural vision and Artemide’s expertise has shaped a distinctive design language, capable of evolving across different contexts and scales. It is a dialogue that continues to open new perspectives on the relationship between technology, form, and the way people experience space.
